City calendars being printed

for distribution

City of Dunkirk calendars for 2014 and 2015 Curbside Collection of Rubbish, Recycling, Brush and other items, are being printed for insertion and distribution in the OBSERVER.

Due to holiday observances, the distribution may be delayed until early 2014, but the electronic version of the calendar is immediately available at the City’s website, dunkirktoday.com.

The Mayor and the Director of Public Works thank all city residents for following the procedures outlined in the calendars, and they specially request that residents increase their participation in the zero-sort recycling curbside pickup on alternate Mondays.

Drive-in zero-sort recycling is available in the morning to early afternoon Mondays through most Saturdays at the City Recycling Center on West Lucas Avenue.

The Chadwick Bay has finalized plans for the Getaway Weekend at the Dunkirk Clarion Hotel. Please be advised that the dates are March 7-9. Activities include a networking party on Friday night, a shopping expo on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and all-day pampering sessions. The longtime favorite water aerobics is back on the schedule. A women’s health seminar, basket weaving classes, no sew blankets and investment strategy are also being offered in the afternoon.

The group is looking for crafters for the shopping expo. If interested, contact Donnie Hover at 673-1045 for the vendor form.

Hanover office hours

Office hours for the Hanover town clerk’s office will change. On Friday the office will close at 4 p.m. and on New Year’s Eve, the office will close at 12:30 p.m.

Gas prices rise

Average retail gasoline prices in Rochester have risen 1.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.65/g Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 319 gas outlets in Rochester. This compares with the national average that has increased 2.2 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.23/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Rochester during the past week, prices Sunday were unchanged compared to the same day one year ago and are 6.8 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

Russell Joy Park rental applications will be accepted on Jan. 2

The Fredonia-Pomfret Recreation Department will begin accepting Russell Joy Park pavilion rental applications for the summer 2014 season beginning on Jan. 2 at 8:30 a.m. at the Recreation Department office on the second floor of Fredonia Village Hall.

Applications will only be accepted from Fredonia or Pomfret residents through January.

Residents from neighboring communities will be able to submit rental applications beginning in February.

Russell Joy Park has three pavilions available for public rental from April 1 through Oct. 31.
