Blood drive today at hospital canceled

The Community Blood Drive scheduled today at Brooks Memorial Hospital has been canceled.

Red Cross responds

to fire in Silver Creek

Members of the Southwestern NY American Red Cross Disaster Team responded to provide disaster relief following a home fire in Silver Creek on Friday.

Disaster Team volunteers Mary Walker and Fran Heath responded to provide initial disaster assistance for a family of two. Temporary housing, clothing, and meals are services typically offered to address emergency needs. The local Red Cross chapter will continue working with the individuals and their recovery process if additional services or referrals are necessary.

All disaster assistance offered by the American Red Cross is complimentary and made possible by generous contributions from the American people and residents of Chautauqua County.

The American Red Cross is a United Way Community Partner.

Cattaraugus County jury postponement

Due to severe weather conditions, all Cattaraugus County jurors summoned for today are directed NOT to report as scheduled. Cattaraugus County jury service has been postponed to Wednesday at 9 a.m. Jurors summoned to appear should call 938-2383 for further reporting instructions after 5 p.m. today.

Souper Adoption Day

at Lakeshore Humane Society Adoption Center

Lakeshore Humane Society’s first Pet Adoption Day of 2014 on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. will be a special one. “Souper Adoption Day” will feature homemade soup to beat January’s chill. The event takes place at LHS Adoption Center at 431 East Chestnut St. in Dunkirk. There will also be a storytime for children with cookies and hot chocolate at 1 pm.

All are welcome to this special afternoon. Visit the animals in need of caring homes, see the facility, enjoy some soup and a storytime, and stop at the LHS’s “gift boutique” which offers an assortment of pet-themed items for humans and animals and benefits the Lakeshore Humane Society. Silver Creek Village Clerk’s Office, Court closed today

The Silver Creek Village Clerk’s Office and Court will be closed today due to the weather. Monday’s village board meeting was canceled but has yet to be rescheduled.

Gas price unchanged

Average retail gasoline prices in Rochester have not moved in the past week, averaging $3.66/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 319 gas outlets in Rochester. This compares with the national average that has not moved in the last week to $3.30/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Rochester during the past week, prices yesterday were 1 cent per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 4.7 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 5.7 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 3.3 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

Dunkirk-Fredonia Lions Club to meet Monday
