Alexandra Cobb, a senior at Fredonia High School, was nominated to the United States Air Force Academy by U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

Alexandra, the daughter of Steve Cobb and Mya Hafez Nezami, will graduate in June with an Advanced Regents Diploma with honors. She has been involved in sports, playing soccer and running both indoor and outdoor track. A member of the advanced music program at Fredonia High School, she is currently the treasurer and concertmaster of the high school orchestra. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Foreign Language Club and the Key Club. Community involvement has included the Laurel Run, Relay for Life, and coaching a soccer team during the summer.

Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Armed Service Committee formed a selection committee to chose the nominees from a large group of qualified applicants. Decisions were based on criteria including academic record, leadership potential and overall achievement. Final acceptance is determined solely by the service academies.

“Our service academies are distinguished by a devotion to honor, courage and commitment,” said Gillibrand. “I am honored to nominate these young, talented New Yorkers who exemplify these core values. It is my hope that the accomplished nominees have the chance to live their dreams and serve in our country’s armed forces with distinction.”

Alexandra was the only selection from western New York.
