Sherman handles CVCS; Brocton falls to Clymer

SHERMAN – After a close first half, undefeated Sherman changed its defense in the third quarter and it led to several steals and an eighth-straight boys basketball win, including four in CCAA Division II West, on Saturday.
A 17-8 third quarter broke open a 27-25 halftime lead as Sherman went on to defeat Cassadaga Valley (2-1, 6-3), 60-44.
Andrew Graham scored eight points and Ryan Robson five during the decisive third period. The lead grew to as high as 18 points in the final stanza.
Graham finished with 23 points, five assists and four steals and Jake Card grabbed 18 rebounds and had 11 points for the Wildcats, the state’s top team in Class D.
Robson checked out with eight points and three steals for the Wildcats.
Kyle Ruge sank 13 points and Mike Lancaster 10 for Cassadaga Valley. Lancaster hauled down 10 rebounds and Cody Johnson grabbed seven rebounds and added seven points.
Cassadaga Valley is back in action on Monday when they host CCAA West II foe Westfield.
Clymer 39, Brocton 22
CLYMER – The Clymer Pirates (5-4, 1-3) jumped out to a 10-2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they defeated the visiting Brocton Bulldogs (0-7, 0-4), 39-22, for their first CCAA West II win of the season.
Jake Wiggers and Mitch Einink each had 12 points, with Einink adding a game-high 13 rebounds while Wiggers chipped in six steals. Also for the Pirates, Matt DeStevens added seven points and four assists in the win.
Clymer outscored Brocton, 11-10, in the second quarter to take a 21-12 lead into the break. After halftime, the Pirates outscored the Bulldogs, 18-10, for the 39-22 final.
Aaron Riforgiato had a team-high nine points to go with eight rebounds while Anthony Riforgiato chipped in eight points, seven rebounds and three steals. Also for the Bulldogs, Macalum Buchanan had three blocks.
Silver Creek 61, Randolph 43
SILVER CREEK – The Silver Creek Black Knights (7-3, 3-1) boys basketball team recorded a bounce-back win Saturday with a 61-43 victory over Randolph in a non-league matchup.
“This was the best game we played all season,” Silver Creek coach Rob Genco said. “After not practicing for a week (due to weather) going into the Fredonia game, it was evident on the court. (Yesterday) was the complete opposite. I’m proud of the way the team came to practice after the Fredonia loss. I’m proud of the way we responded.”
Billy Brooks scored a game-high 18 points while pulling down 16 rebounds and dishing out six assists. Brennan White’s outside shooting complimented Brooks’ inside game as White recorded 16 points. Kaine Kettle added 12 points in the win.
Mitchell Maycock led Randolph with nine points while Bryce Morrison and Taylor Miller each scored eight points.
Silver Creek is set to host Falconer-Frewsburg on Monday.
