YWCA Westfield classes to continue
WESTFIELD – The YWCA Westfield announ-ces the tumbling and tae kwon do classes, as well as the daytime adult exercise sessions, and the Zumba classes will continue through the winter months.
Tumbling classes are held each Monday evening for students ages 3 to 7. Younger kids, ages 3 to 5 have class at 5:30 and the class at 6:30 is designed for students up to age 7. The classes are open to both boys and girls and focus on basic balance techniques, summersaults, stretching and special movements. Class instructor is Holly Spoon, assisted by Amelia Askey. Both teachers have a background in dance and cheerleading.
The class fee is $25 per month, plus a youth membership. Students and their parents are welcome to observe a class prior to registering.
The tae kwon do classes will continue on Tuesday and Thursday nights at the YWCA. Classes are offered under the direction of longtime teacher Albert Ramirez for students age 8 through adult. Class begins at 5 p.m. for the students up to age 15. The group for age 16 through adult meets at 6:30 p.m. Each group will focus on this ancient art of self-defense featuring speed, strength, stamina and flexibility. Tae Kwon Do is an Olympic event and is considered the most popular martial art. It is practiced in over 100 countries by 30 million followers. Under the director of Ann Cochran, the YWCA is pleased to host morning adult exercise classes open to men and women over 18. These classes meet three times a week. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. each Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Chairs are provided for stability. Individuals can attend once, twice or all three times and everyone is encouraged to participate at their own pace. There is no fee for this class, but a valid YWCA membership is required. This class meets in the YWCA gymnasium and walk-ins are welcome.
Zumba classes are held each Wednesday evening and Saturday morning at the YWCA. Instructor Holly Spoon holds the Wednesday class at 6:30 p.m.; the Saturday class begins at 8 a.m. Classes are open to both men and women. There is no registration required, walk ins are welcome and payment of $5 can be made at the door.
