Library to offer program about ADHD for parents

JAMESTOWN – Pren-dergast Library will offer a program at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, for parents who would like to learn more about Attention Def-icit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Presenters Ryan M. Smith and Alycia Yard Johnson will provide what they describe as “basic ADHD 101 information” such as an overview of the diagnosis, common behaviors and treatments.

They will also describe typical challenges for families in environments such as home, school, and social encounters. A PowerPoint presentation will serve as a reminder tool of the main points.

They will also answer questions from parents who are seeking information about specific types of behavior or solutions to challenges they are facing.

“We will definitely open it up for questions, and that will be a significant attraction to parents who are thinking about attending. Talking about the challenges in different social settings is also going to be a key component,” according to Public Services Manager Annie Greene.

Smith is a licensed master social worker who works for Family Service of the Chautauqua Region, Partner’s for Children, at Chautauqua Lake Central School. Johnson is a national certified counselor and licensed mental health counselor who works for Chautauqua County Mental Health at Chautauqua Lake Central School.

This program for parents is free, and no registration is required.
