Betty H. DePasquale

Betty Harriett (Grey) DePasquale, 88, of Silver Creek, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at Buffalo General Hospital.

She was born Betty Gregory on January 26, 1925, in Portland, and raised by her late uncle and aunt, Frank J. and Florence M. (Furman) Reynolds of Silver Creek. She was a descendant of Captain Oliver Stetson of Ripley, a veteran of the Revolutionary War and War of 1812.

Betty graduated in 1943 from Silver Creek High School, where she was called “Blondie”. She played badminton, baseball, basketball and soccer, sang in the glee club and was on the yearbook staff. After graduating she worked as a waitress.

Betty married her late husband, Philip J. DePasquale, after he returned from serving with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. They married on August 16, 1947 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Silver Creek, where she was baptized Catholic in 1949.

Betty and Phil owned the former Central Drycleaners and Quality Food Market in Silver Creek and Phil’s Drive-In in Hanover. Together they made and sold Italian sausage out of their Robinson Street home in Silver Creek for nearly 50 years.

Betty was an avid sports fan and loyal follower of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres, while her baseball allegiances shifted through her life from the Cleveland Indians to the New York Mets to finally the New York Yankees.

Betty’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and playing with her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren. She shared her birthday with her great-granddaughter Chiara and was thrilled to meet her twin great grandsons at what would be her last Christmas.

Surviving are three sons, Roger (Julie) DePasquale of Fredonia, Ronald P. (Linda) DePasquale of Irving and Philip (MaryAnn) DePasquale of Jamestown; and one daughter, Sharon (Keith) Letta of Valparaiso, Indiana; grandsons, Ronald S.
