Maureen H. Tornyos

Maureen H. “Mrs. T” (Fort) Tornyos, 72, of St. Petersburg, FL and Silver Creek, NY passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 after a brief illness despite years of battling cancer.

Maureen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, adopted mother and friend to many.

Born January 12, 1942 in Cohoes, NY, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Catherine (McGrail) Fort and is survived by her loving husband, Tibor Tornyos, from Gellenhaza, Hungary. They moved to St. Petersburg, FL after living in Silver Creek, NY for 50 years.

Maureen was a loving homemaker, photographer’s assistant and worked at Silver Creek Elementary School. She was an active grandmother, dedicated parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, volunteer at Pasadena Fundamental Elementary School and involved at The Springs of Boca Ciega Bay.

She is survived by her children, Jeff Tornyos of West Pawlet, VT and Jill (JB) Parker of St. Petersburg, FL; her grandchildren, Abigail and Cole Parker; a sister, Laurel Charland of Ridge Manor, FL.

Predeceased by her siblings Richard (Ron) and Kathleen.

Visitation will be held at David C. Gross Funeral Home in St. Petersburg, FL on Saturday, January 25 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle (Our Lady’s Chapel), 5815 – 5th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL 33710.
