E. Christine Phelka

E. Christine Phelka, 60, of Fredonia, died following a brave battle with cancer, Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.

She was born October 26, 1953 in Silver Creek, daughter of William and Mary Ann (Domst) Larson of Dunkirk.

A graduate of North High School in Torrance, Calif., she attended El Camino Community College in California and SUNY Fredonia in New York.

Christine worked at Inner Lakes Federal Credit Union in Fredonia and was co-owner of the family business, Ellie’s Deli, in Silver Creek.

Christine enjoyed many things in life, among them, time spent with family, her three sons, canine companion “Rooney” and sewing, crafting and singing in the choir.

Her memberships included St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, the parish choir and she was the 2013 Honorary Chairperson of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Fredonia. She was also a past member and president of the Home School Association of NCCS, a past Girl Scout leader, Cub Master Pack Leader in Dunkirk and president of the Monday Nite Couples Bowling League at Lucky Lanes.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband of 32 years Stanley B. Phelka II of Fredonia, whom she married June 26, 1982, their sons, Michael (Danielle Hall) Phelka, Thomas Phelka, both of Chicago, and Alex Phelka of Fredonia, sister Linda Larson of Stockton, Robert Larson, Katie (late Mark) Ellis, both of Virginia, James (Ginny) Larson of Dunkirk, Daniel (Sunny) Larson of Fairborn, Ohio, Amy Jo (Wayne) Dorler of Stockton, and sister-in-law Mary Beth Larson, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 E. Doughty St. in Dunkirk, today from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock in St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, 66 Cushing St., Fredonia, N.Y., and Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, 101 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst, N.Y. 14228.
