Cygan flirts with perfection as Gowanda rolls

WEST VALLEY – Walker Cygan nearly reached perfection Wednesday as he cracked a 297 game in leading the Gowanda Panthers to a 4-0 sweep of West Valley in high school bowling.

The Panthers (41-3) combined for a 930-1,006-927-2,863 while West Valley combined for a 717-684-761-2,162.

Cygan also had a 216 and a 192 for a 705 series. Jarred Krajewski contributed in the win with a 168-184-193-545.

For the girls, the Gowanda Lady Panthers (44-0) kept their perfect season in tact Wednesday with a 4-0 sweep of West Valley.

Gowanda’s linescore read 733-713-784-2,230 compared to West Valley’s 454-483-396-1,333 at Cascade Lanes.

High series for Gowanda was recorded by Lauren Wing with a 156-218-167-541. Laura Gurney added a 166-163-149-478 and Brittanee Stelley bowled a high game of 154.

Forestville sweeps Clymer

The Forestville Lady Hornets (30-2) swept Clymer, 4-0, with a linescore of 554-514-562-1,630 while the Lady Pirates rolled a 452-501-524-1,477.

The Lady Hornets were led by Sarah Pleva’s 187-163-498. Haylee Valentine had a 148.

Clymer received a 212-170-535 from Janelle Engels.

In the boys’ match, Forestville (31-9) also swept with a linescore of 894-866-712-2,472. Clymer combined for a 718-585-703-2,006.

John Murphy led the Hornets with a 233-566. Dillenburg had a 193-494. Dakota Fisher added a 156-151 for the winners.

Clymer was led by Tristan Tapp’s 200 and Braydon Dodson’s 172.

Knights bowl past Brocton

The Silver Creek Black Knights swept the Brocton Bulldogs, 4-0, Wednesday in CCAA Division 2 high school bowling.

The Knights (28-8) rolled a 972-987-917-2,876 compared to Brocton’s 766-729-740-2,235 at Lucky Lanes.

Silver Creek was led by Tyler Steklasa’s 243-189-603 and Tim Mannings’ 236-222-628. Robert Paterson rolled a 201 and Carl Cotroneo added a 200-194-194-588.

Brocton (17-23) received a 181-177-534 from Mark Nickerson. Jordan Krystofiak rolled a 174 in a losing effort.
