Gowanda trustee Dale DeCarlo resigns

GOWANDA – Just as a new face has joined the Gowanda Village Board recently, another familiar face is leaving. Trustee Dale DeCarlo announced his resignation at a recent meeting.

Mayor Heather McKeever read DeCarlo’s letter of resignation, which he submitted after “long and careful consideration.” DeCarlo said he is resigning after almost a decade of service to the village board and he needs time off.

“I’ve had a good time and just need to take a break. We’ll see what next year brings,” DeCarlo said.

DeCarlo is the second trustee to resign in recent weeks; John Certis resigned at the end of 2013 as village trustee. Trustee Paul Zimmermann, along with McKeever, thanked DeCarlo for his service on the board to the village and community.

McKeever has the authority to appoint someone to fulfill DeCarlo’s term, which expires March 31. McKeever said she has been in talks with Barb Nephew, a former trustee, and she will be appointed to finish DeCarlo’s term.

The village also agreed to host a special meeting on Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. and approved a cell phone for use by the police department for an officer on duty.

Trustee Carol Sheibley reminded residents if the Gowanda School District is closed for a snow day, village recreation programs will also be closed.
