COTTAGE – Major Szymanski, 94, of Cottage Road, Cottage, NY passed away Thursday January 30, 2014 in Forestville, NY.
He was born April 1, 1919 in Buffalo, NY the son of the late Walter and Katherine (Pyza) Szymanski.
Mr. Szymanski was a WWII veteran having served in the US Army with the 193rd Field Artillery in the European Theater. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was married to the former Violet C. Chzanowski, who predeceased him on September 11, 2013.
Mr. Szymanski had worked for the Carnation Co. in Dunkirk, NY for over 40 years. He was a member of the South Dayton American Legion Post #1593 and the Slovenian Club in Gowanda, NY.
He is survived by 3 sons William (Deborah) Szymanski of Forestville, NY, Robert Szymanski of Ashville, NY and Richard Szymanski of Forestville, NY; 1 granddaughter, Jennifer and 2 great grandchildren, Alexander and Nathan. Also surviving is a brother August Szymanski of South Dayton, NY and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife he is predeceased by a son Walter Szymanski; 2 brothers, Frederick and Chester Szymanski; and 2 sisters, Ann Williamson and Bertha Milks.
Friends may call at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 105 East Main Street in Gowanda, NY on Wednesday February 5, 2014 from 10-11 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Gowanda, NY.
