Chautauqua Striders celebrates 35th anniversary

This year Chautauqua Striders celebrates 35 years of mentoring and guiding youth through education, advocacy, and athletics. What started on the north side as the Chadakoin Valley Athletic Club, has now emerged from its humble beginnings to become a multi-faceted organization that serves over 2,000 Chautauqua County area youth annually by providing tutoring, mentoring, outreach, and athletic programs. The goal of Chautauqua Striders is to help youth graduate from high school inspired with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required for successful college and career experiences.

The Striders’ staff and board of directors are preparing for the next 35 years of programming growth and are looking forward to events that will celebrate this anniversary, promote the Striders’ mission and provide financial security for years to come.

One upcoming event is the organization’s second annual “Striders Night Live” event-of-the-year on Friday, March 7 at the Crystal Ballroom in the Hotel Jamestown Building. This fun-filled evening will feature the comedy stylings of “Lights of Broadway,” a local comedy duo featuring Jeff Kresge and Jason Williams, both Jamestown public school teachers. “Teachers, Preachers and Trent” will provide live classic rock from the 1970’s and today’s biggest hits. “TPT” is comprised of Jamestown High School teachers Mike Tuccio and Scott Lumia, JHS graduate Trent Stafford, and local pastors Adam Rohler, Jay Baehr, and Justin Joyner.

The “Wheel of Shame” will return to add even more excitement to the evening. A “Saturday Night Live” costume contest will also be held.

Tickets are now available for $25 tickets from any Chautauqua Striders’ staff. The cost is $30 at the door. The evening is intended for adults only; no one under 21 years old will be admitted. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the event begins at 7:30 p.m.
