Six wins enough as Gowanda downs CLV-PV

CATTARAUGUS – Of the 11 matches that were wrestled on Tuesday night at Cattaraugus-Little Valley High School, Gowanda won six of them, as the Panthers escaped with a 43-33 non-league win over the Timberwolves.

Winning for Gowanda were Cody Richter (152 pounds), Chris Hammond (160), Mickey Mentley (113), Jon Flynn (120), Josh Balzer (138) and Lucas McKeever (145).

Richter won a 5-4 decision over Dylan Rhinehart, Hammond edged Alex Stalker, 5-2, Mentley cruised past Courtney Fleming, 14-5, and Flynn pinned Adolf Zollinger in 1:24. Also, Balzer beat Gabe Grey, 15-9, and McKeever ended the night with a pin of Randy Grey in 1:32.

For the Timberwolves, Alex Kelly (170) pinned Shane DeLeo in 2:59, Billy Fleming (195) pinned Gary Nephew in 1:57, Chris Dolling (220) pinned Devin Richter in 3:33 and Sam Grey pinned Jack VanWey in 1:36. Meanwhile, Cattaraugus-Little Valley-Pine Valley’s Dakota Crawford won a 8-1 decision over Ethan Francis to take the match at 132.

Four of the matches were decided by forfeit, with three going to Gowanda – Dalton Mills at 182, Devon Clark at 285, and David Poff at 126. The Timberwolves’ Michael Grey won by forfeit at 106.
