CIAO board plans the coming year’s events

On Tuesday, Feb. 4, , the CIAO board of directors met to set the calendar of events and chairpersons for 2014. President Sam Crisanti welcomed new board members Lynda Mosher and Laurie Detenbeck.

The St. Joseph Day Celebration will be Sunday, March 16 from 1 until 3 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, Main Street, Fredonia. Those attending should bring a dish to pass, a place setting and a beverage other than coffee. Members and guests are welcome. Anyone who plans to attend should call Nance Ortolano at 673-9177.

Tony Granata is finalizing the plans for the pizza, wine and card party. More information will follow once a time and place is determined. Call Tony at 467-5649 with any questions.

The annual picnic date has been set for July 19 at Russell Joy Park, lower pavilion beginning at noon. This is a change of place and date. The group moved the date a week earlier this year and also the pavilion has changed from the upper to the lower. The directors hope that members who can’t attend at the end of the month will be able to join us this year. More information will follow.

CIAO is happy to support our local communities. Lynda Mosher has volunteered to chair the Community Service Committee; she will present several suggestions to the board at our next meeting on March 4.

The Columbus Day Celebration is still in the planning stage. The group celebrates Columbus Day and also the bountiful harvest from members’ gardens. More information pertaining to date, time and place will follow.

Margaret Valone has graciously volunteered to chair our December Christmas Party. Margaret did such a wonderful job last year and the group looks forward to another great time.

Missing from the meeting was Rosemary Piede, who is busy working on trips to Italian Festivals and Italian communities both near and far.
