William B. Wittenbrook
GERRY – William B. Wittenbrook, 75, of Sinclairville died Tuesday Feb.4, 2014 at Heritage Village Skilled Nursing and Rehab due to multiple medical conditions.
He was born August 11, 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of the late John W. and Berneatus Christman- Wittenbrook.
Bill was very proud of his time in the military, starting with his stint in the Navy as a submariner, Navy Reserve, NY National Guard in the tank corps and finally in the Army Reserve teaching land navigation, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant.
He wore many hats through the years, mechanic, salesman and entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur he could turn his hand to solve problems and fix anything. He worked for Chautauqua County Highway Dept., local auto agencies, Pacos Construction, Shore Acres boat yard, the FBO at the Chautauqua County Airport, several local insurance agencies and finally buying homes at auction, refurbishing them and renting/selling them.
However, his primary love was his home in South Stockton. Bill loved to work, enjoyed boating, fishing including ice fishing, hunting and flying airplanes whenever he could, and devised many ways to accomplish his goals as his strength and ability waned.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years, Claudia (Nugent); sons Charles (Kelly) of Sinclairville, NY, Matt (Renee) of South Dayton, NY, and daughter Kate (John) Horne of Lynnwood, WA; grandchildren Ben (Deborah) of Norfolk, VA, Rich of Colorado Springs, CO, Wm. J. (Natalie) of Lynchburg, VA, and Izabelle Horne of Lynnwood, WA. He also leaves a step-sister Janelle of Ashland, OH and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Bill belonged to several organizations: the War Vets, the American Legion (where he was a regular for the Thursday night Blue Grass Music), the Moose, the Thule Lodge, the Vikings, and enjoyed going to JCC for the Swedish Studies to play his violin.
Funeral arrangements are by Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville, NY. Calling hours 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Friday, Feb. 7. Funeral will be held Saturday at 10 AM at the Funeral Home.
