Marauders finding a groove with win
The Dunkirk Marauders (4-12, 3-6) picked up their third league win in four games Friday with a 58-39 victory over the Southwestern Trojans (5-10, 2-7) in CCAA West I boys high school basketball action.
“We are playing good,” Dunkirk coach Steve O’Brien said. “We did it with about seven players. We played good defense. We did enough to disrupt them. We are doing a better job.”
Senior Michael Bess led the way for the Marauders with 22 points, seven rebounds and two steals. The rest of the contributions are coming from underclassmen, according to O’Brien.
“Davonte Grayson, Kobe DeJesus and Robbie Rivera are all playing good ball,” O’Brien said. “They play well and they hustle.”
Grayson had six assists and Isiah Thomas had 12 points and nine rebounds. Genaro Collazo collected 11 points and four assists and Esmond Colvin pulled down 11 boards in the win.
Jack Carlson led the Trojans with 12 points.
