Steelers advance in High?School?hockey playoffs
RIVERSIDE – Kyle Leyseth’s second-period goal lifted the Dunkirk-Fredonia Steelers to a thrilling 1-0 victory over South Park/Riverside on Monday in the first round of the Western New York High School Club hockey playoffs.
Leyseth found the back of the net on a shot from the point. The goal was assisted by Matt Sheridan.
Jared Hebner was in net and earned the shutout.
The Steelers will now host a playoff game Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Steele Hall. The next round is a best-of-3 format.
Over the weekend, the Steelers finished off the regular season with an 8-1 win over Pioneer/Springville.
The Steelers ended up on top of the Blue Division, with a record of 13-2-1.
Ryan Meredith led the way with the hat trick. Mike Meredith and David Woloszyn assisted on Ryan’s first goal, Mike Paradis assisted on his second. Leyseth assisted the third. Connor Graves added two goals. Matt Sheridan and Leyseth assisted on Graves’ second goal.
Matt Szalkowski also added two goals. Assists went to Graves, Leyseth, Sheridan and Riley Harris. Adam Dziduch added a single goal on an assist by Trevor Grupa and Paradis.
Hebner was in the net for the win.
