Cleary discusses trip to Washington
FORESTVILLE – Forestville School Board President Sylvester Cleary spoke of his trip to Washington, D.C., during the school board meeting held recently.
“I was in Washington a few days and met with Senator Chuck Schumer,” he said. “He is always a gracious person to talk to and he said he is ‘feeling more optimistic about funding for schools.'”
Cleary added he met with Rep. Tom Reed while he was there.
“I had a good conversation with Reed,” he said. “I told him I came from the great metropolis of Forestville.”
The National School Board Stand Up For Education Rally across the United States was also mentioned.
Cleary announced he received an autographed copy of Dr. Martin Luther King’s daughter Dr. Bernice King’s book “Hard Questions, Heart Answers” while in Washington D.C.
“I would like to put this book in the school library so everyone can see it,” he said. “She told me that her father’s dream still lives on.”
Cleary is invited to talk at the Fellowship Hall Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. during church service about faith, hope and love.
In other business, the board purchased the installation of security equipment for $5,500 from CIR Electrical Construction; the elementary doors for $9,366 from D&S Glass Products; and bowling fees of $3,500 from Lucky Lanes.
The board members made an approval of school trips; Laurie Becker and MaryBeth Einhouse will be chaperones for the Spanish Club Trip to Spain/Italy taking place April 11-20; The Class of 2014 trip to New York City April 6-8 will have Lisa Brewster and Stephanie Kubera for the chaperones.
The board established its organizational meeting to be held July 10 at 6 p.m. in the high school library.
