Forestville comes close in loss to West Valley

WEST VALLEY – Forestville senior Nichole Bannister scored her first career basket Wednesday in a 49-41 defeat at the hands of the West Valley Lady Panthers (5-12, 4-7) in CCAA East II girls high school basketball.

The Lady Hornets (3-18, 2-10) held an 8-7 lead after the first quarter, but West Valley responded with an 18-9 run to take a 25-17 halftime lead. The teams traded baskets throughout the second half as Forestville and West Valley each scored 24 points.

Trisha Thomas led the Lady Panthers with 14 points and 16 rebounds while Jordan Seltzer had 10 points in the win.

Amanda Weaver was Forestville’s leading scorer with nine points.


Chautauqua Lake 79, Clymer 29

MAYVILLE – Ashton Albanesius had 22 points and 14 rebounds to pace the Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds (16-1, 12-0) to a convincing 79-29 victory over Clymer (10-7, 8-4) on Wednesday in CCAA West II girls high school basketball.

In the past three seasons, Chautauqua Lake has accumulated a 50-7 record.

Jenna Einink added 25 points for the winners.

Chautauqua Lake held a 20-10 lead after the first quarter and a 37-16 lead at halftime. It went on to outscore the visitors 41-13 in the second half for the win.

The Lady Pirates were led by Amanda Einink’s eight points. Carly McAfoose and Kayla Gilkinson each had five rebounds in a losing effort.

Chautauqua Lake takes on Southwestern on Saturday at Jamestown Community College. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.


Olean 56, Dunkirk 39

OLEAN – Maddie Crandall’s 16 points were not enough as the Olean Lady Huskies prevailed, 56-39, over the Dunkirk Lady Marauders on Wednesday in non-league girls high school basketball action.

Crandall added six rebounds and three steals in the loss while Sarah Hanlon had eight points and three steals. Natasha Colon had a solid all-around effort with four points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

The Lady Huskies jumped out to a 19-6 lead in the first quarter and used a 21-9 run in the third quarter to put the game away.

The Lady Marauders return to action Friday as they host Gowanda on Senior Night.
