Local Girl Scout service unit plans events
The Brocton, Cassadaga, Dunkirk, Fredonia Service Unit has planned some fun-filled events for its girls.
On Sunday, Feb. 23 a FREE craft day will be held at Saint Joseph’s Parish cafeteria from 1 to 3 p.m. Girls will have the opportunity to make several different crafts and tray favors provided by our local Girl Scout Leaders and the Service Unit.
The favors will be donated to our local Meals on Wheels Program in memory of Ernest Krzyzanowski. Ernie was the father of Girl Scout Leader and Service Unit Member Connie Wojcinski.
On Saturday, March 1 the Girl Scouts will travel to the Niagara Falls Aquarium for a special overnight visit. The evening will begin with the Sea Lion Show. Other activities include a visit to the touch tank to learn about invertebrate animals, a scavenger hunt throughout the exhibits, a special sea worthy craft and the thrill of sleeping in the aquarium with the Sea Lions.
The cost is $19 per person and includes a pizza snack on Saturday night and doughnuts and milk for breakfast.
During the month of March, Girl Scout Troop 20158 will collect cans and bottles to donate to the Cans For Cancer box at the Northern Chautauqua Redemption Center at 10935 Bennett Road in Dunkirk. The troop can collect donations or people can take them right to the redemption center. There is a pink collection box with a pink ribbon on the right side of the entrance. If the items don’t all fit, take them inside and tell Scout that they are for the Cans for Cancer project. All money from cans collected here will stay right in Chautauqua county to benefit local cancer programs. Recently Christine Phelka, an active Girl Scout leader and Cub Master lost her battle with cancer. Christine would be grateful for your support.
Any girl who thinks these events sound like fun but is not a Girl Scout may register at the Craft Day Event. Parents and girls that would like to attend should bring a $15 registration fee, cash or check made out to GSWNY. and current immunization records. A guardian needs to sign the registration form.
Local Service team members look forward to seeing local scouts and maybe meeting some new ones.
