Forestville Fire Dept. gets quotes on roof

FORESTVILLE – After reporting to the Forestville Village Board that the fire hall’s roof is leaking and presents potential danger, fire department officials have collected quotes for the repairs.

Forestville Fire Chief Bruce Hagmier told the board recently that the department found three companies willing to do the roof work. However, he said two of them will not do the work until the weather breaks.

It was previously reported that the roof leaks in several spots, including by the entry door, which in the cold weather is causing ice to form and present a safety hazard.

Deputy Mayor Kevin Johnson thinks the roof on the 43-year-old building should be replaced, not just repaired. Mayor Linda Aures said they are looking to replace the roof.

Hagmier said the department had 29 calls in January and also presented some budgetary “needs and wants” for the board’s consideration.

The board previously formed the budget planning committee consisting of Johnson, Trustee Ron Lineman, Clerk/Treasurer James White and three members of the public. Aures thanked Brian Schneider, Gary Balote and Dave McEntarfer for volunteering.

The committee hopes to have a budget to present to the board before the end of February.

The board also heard a complaint from resident Calvin Warner who said the snowplows are going too fast by his house and recently took out three mailboxes, including his own. He presented the village with a receipt for the cost of the mailbox and said he would like to be reimbursed.

The board will meet with proposed Northside Water District customers on Feb. 20. The next regular meeting will be held Feb. 25.
