New teachers appointed in city

Several new faces will be seen around the Dunkirk City School District after the board of education made a number of appointments recently.

Jennifer Scibilia of Blasdell was appointed to the position of School 5 reading teacher at a salary of $41,755. That appointment was made after the approval of Elizabeth Best-Laurie’s termination, effective Feb. 28. Superintendent Gary Cerne declined to comment on the matter due to it being a personnel issue.

One new part-time art teacher at the middle school and a full-time art teacher at schools 5 and 7 were also approved by the board. Laura Berkeley of Orchard Park will take over the full-time position at a salary of $41,235 while Brianna Dulgerian of Tonawanda will fill the part-time position for $25,713.

Gina Gautieri of Attica was appointed as middle/high school temporary English as a second language teacher at a salary of $43,173.

A new temporary part-time ESL teacher was also approved for the middle school. Linda Vallone of Dunkirk has taken on that role for $24,339.

Several resignations were also accepted by the board, including Lisa Fox as cleaner, Allan Wolfe as night custodian, Bonnie Burnett as ESL teacher, Kathryn Hujer as full-time art teacher and Roberta Sipp as teacher aide.

A change order for Ahlstrom Schaeffer in the amount of $3,526 was also approved, along with a $2,231 change order for Transit Construction.

“Those were for additional data drops and wiring in the middle school kitchen and tin ceilings for hallway intersections at School 7,” Cerne explained.

The board entered into executive session to discuss a contractual matter.
