Gowanda advances to quarterfinals; DHS?falls to Bennett

BUFFALO – Rea White had 23 points and six steals to help lead No. 9 Gowanda (7-12) past No. 8 Oracle Charter (5-12), 58-37, Tuesday during Section 6 Class B-2 girls prequarterfinal girls basketball action.
“It was a good start to our playoff run with a strong game like this,” Gowanda head coach Kate Bailey said. “It was a team effort. Everyone was able to put up some stats, so it was nice.”
The Lady Panthers jumped out to a commanding 21-8 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, as they held a 30-15 lead at halftime, and a 42-26 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Emma Weyand chipped in eight points in the win while teammates Gabby Lay, Jessica Sowa (17 rebounds) and Jenna Stelley had six points each.
No. 4 Bennett 59, No. 13 Dunkirk 44
BUFFALO – The No. 4 Bennett Tigers (8-11) raced out to a 22-4 lead after the frist quarter and never looked back as they dropped the No. 13 Dunkirk Lady Marauders (1-18), 59-44, Tuesday during Section 6 Class B-1 girls basketball prequarterfinal action.
Bennett increased its lead to 34-15 at the break, before Dunkirk had its best quarter in the third when it outscored the Tigers, 16-8, to pull within 11, 42-31, heading into the final quarter.
Danyae Barclay had a game-high 25 points to lead the Tigers while Jaylese Ragland chipped in 15 points and Shaniyah Crump eight points.
For the Lady Marauders, Sarah Hanlon had a team-high 18 points to go with five rebounds and four steals while Sydney Charles chipped in nine points and eight rebounds.
Bennett will host No. 5 Eden – a 41-15 winner over No. 12 Medina – on Thursday in quarterfinal action.
