LWV hosting hydrofracking discussion

The League of Women Voters invites the public to a discussion on horizontal hydrofracking with Jamestown Community College Instructor Glenn Wahl at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25 in Room 117 of JCC-North. This is a topic about which even the basic facts are controversial, and because Gov. Andrew Cuomo may soon lift New York state’s moratorium on the practice, residents of the north county need to become informed about its potential benefits and dangers. Waste products from fracking have already been transported over county routes and the county is authorized to spread fracking flow-back brine to de-ice its roads, so public discussion of the costs and benefits of the process is timely.

The meeting will begin with a screening of a video, The Ethics of Fracking. After the screening, Wahl will answer questions from the audience and a general discussion may follow. Admission is free and all are welcome.
