Dunkirk Little League registration

Dunkirk Little League will hold registration Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 6-8 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 27 from 6-8 p.m.; and Sunday, March 2 from 2-4 p.m. at the American Legion Post, 211 Central Ave.

For baseball, all players who will be 4 years old before May 1, 2014 and who will not reach the age of 13 before May 1, 2014 may register.

For softball, all players who will be 6 years old before Jan. 1, 2014 and who will not reach the age of 13 before Jan. 1, 2014 may register.

For senior baseball, all players who will be 13 years old before May 1, 2014 and will not be reach the age of 17 before May 1, 2014 may register.(This is for all Dunkirk Residents).

All new and returning players must register.

All new players must bring their original birth certificates to registration. Hospital and baptismal certificates are not acceptable.

The fee is $40 per player. The fee includes team jersey with name/number and pants that players will keep. This is for all age groups – T-Ball, Minor and Major softball, Minor and Major baseball. The price is caped off at $110 for three or more family members registering.

The fee for the Senior Little League is $50. This is for all kids who played in the Concord League last year for Dunkirk residents only.

Parent/Guardian must be present at registration.

Volunteers are needed to serve as managers, coaches and team parents for the 2014 season. Information about how to volunteer or questions about registration can be directed to League President Gary Haase at 679-6929.

NCCYHA Modified Ice Hockey Spring Team is looking for players

The NCCYHA Modified Ice Hockey team is looking for seventh and eighth grade hockey players to play in the WNYHSCHL spring league.

Players must be currently enrolled in seventh or eighth grade in the Dunkirk, Fredonia or surrounding schools. Tryouts are March 2 at Steele Hall from 4:45-6:45 p.m. There will be a $10 charge for the tryout. Bring a light and dark jersey with the last name on the back.

Practices start that week and games will be played until the end of June.

Little League

umpire meeting

There will be a mandatory meeting/class for anyone interested in umpiring Little League baseball and softball games for the upcoming season.

The meeting will take place in Room 636 of Fredonia High School, from 9-11:30 a.m.

Rules, positioning and new assignment procedures will be covered.

Fredonia Little League Registration

Fredonia Little League will hold registration for baseball and softball tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Fredonia High School cafeteria.

The final registration will take place Saturday, March 1 from 9-11 a.m. at Fredonia High School.

Registration will be held for the following divisions: boys and girls T-ball, ages 4-6, boys and girls Hathaway League, ages 6-8, Cerrie League baseball, ages 8-9, boys Wright League baseball, ages 10-12, and Senior boys baseball for ages 13-16.

In the softball division, registration will be held for teams in the minor league, ages 7-9, and major league, ages 10-12.

Participants must be a resident of the Fredonia Central School district.

The cost is $50 for T-ball and $75 for all other leagues including softball. There is a cap of $185 per family.

All new and returning players must register and a copy of a birth certificate is required for all new players.

Coaching and umpire applications will also be accepted at the registration session. All coaching applications, accompanied by a copy of a driver’s license, must be received by the FLL Board of Directors by March 3 in order to be considered for a coaching position.

NCCYHA Squirts

Stars II 4, Steelers 2

The Steelers skated hard, but it wasn’t enough to beat Southtowns.

Matt Lotter and Ikaika Wojcinski scored for the Steelers with Caleb Gornikiewicz and Alex Rush getting the assists. Simon Davis earned the team hard hat with his defensive play and Anthony Fitzgerald suffered the loss between the pipes.

CCHA A League Game

P-Dubs 10, BJ’s 8

Eric Tarnowski and Justin Giles each scored three goals for P-Dubs. Josh Polak had two goals while John Polak and Derek Sheridan each had one for the winners. Assists went to Polak (3), Giles (2), Sheridan (2), Dave Wright (2), Kevin Salemi (2), John Polak and Matt Ginley.

Mike Nelson had the hat trick for BJ’s while Tom O’Connor Sr. and Don Schiedel each had two goals. Tom Coughlin added a goal in defeat.

Assists for BJ’s went to Brian Wojcinski (3), Coughlin, Andy Wheelock, O’Connor Sr.

CCHA B League Game

Dunkirk Falcons 7, Heenan’s Pub 6

Ben Nickle netted four goals for the Falcons while Derek Backert had two in the win. Matt Nickle contributed in the win with a goal of his own.

Assists went to Ryan Simon (2), Ben Nickle, Derek Backert, Adam Woefle, Rick Simon and Dan Nickle.

Goals for Heenan’s went to Derek Sheridan (2), Mike Rozewicz (2), Greg McQuiggan and Ron Pachol.

Assists for Heenan’s were tallied by Jeff Huyck (2), Tim Thexton (2), Byron Vanzile, Don Bley, McQuiggan and Dave Wright.

Brain Zambotti recorded the hat trick while Brad Meyers, Greg Krauza, Luke Buehler and Don Bley each had one goal for the winners.

Assists for Beaver Club went to Jim Rozen (2), Tim Kachelmeyer, Carl Abrams, Brad Meyers, Nick Keefe and Chris Lyseth.

Goals for Wicked Glen went to Chad Carlson and Joe Geerkin.
