Annual Chautauqua Maple Promotion Day March 14

SOUTH DAYTON – The Maple Producers Association of the Chautauqua Region and the Chautauqua County Farm Bureau invites you to attend the annual Chau-tauqua Maple Promotion Day on March 14, starting at 10 a.m., at Dye’s Syrup Company, operated by the Dye family of South Dayton.

The fifth generation is now actively involved in the syrup-making process. They boiled in a new sugarhouse in 2013, but still use much of the older equipment.

They have about 1,600 taps, mostly in tubing using gravity. They still boil with a wood arch. It is truly a family affair at Dye’s.

The purpose of the event is to “kick off” the maple season with a ceremonial tree tapping event, promoting the maple industry in Chautauqua County as well as the upcoming Maple Weekend, on March 22-23 and March 29-30.

Maple Weekend is a collaborative marketing event in which producers from across New York State open their doors to the public in order to increase awareness of the maple industry in the state.

Questions about the event? Contact Virginia Carlberg at 664-9502 ext. 202 or email at vec22@cornell.edu.

Directions to Dye’s Syrup Company, 8568 Silver Creek Road, South Dayton: Take Route 322 East from Balcoms Corners toward South Dayton. Just before entering South Dayton, turn left onto South Dayton-Smith Mills Road (County Road 93). One-quarter mile on that road, the sugarhouse is on the right, just over the crest of the hill.
