Highs and lows: Some of the best, worst of the week
Here are some of the best – and worst – of the week:
SHARING MORE SPORTS – Sharing sports between Silver Creek and Forestville school districts is expanding. The districts will now combine varsity baseball, modified boy lacrosse, varsity boys track, varsity girls track and varsity boys and girls track. It’s a step forward. Maybe some day the districts can realize they can serve better as one district.
PLAYOFF BASKETBALL – It’s an exciting time of year for varsity basketball. Silver Creek girls, Fredonia boys and Chautauqua Lake girls and Pine Valley girls are all still in play. Good luck to all the local teams.
DISASTER DRILL – Let’s face it; the weather recently has been COLD! But that didn’t stop area emergency medical service officials from spending last weekend outdoors and on (and in) Chautauqua Lake for some important training. We applaud those volunteers who were willing to give up a day at home in comfort, so they can be better prepared in the event of an emergency.
AMMUNITION STORAGE – Silver Creek no longer has an active police force, but is considering buying a safe to store its unused ammunition. Why? We agree ammunition should be locked up (although a fire-proof safe seems a bit overboard), but why keep this ammunition if you don’t have police to use it? Either give it away to another police agency or give it to the state police to destroy. There’s no need to hang on to it, especially when you’re being asked to buy a fire-proof safe to keep it in.
