Mercyhurst student from Fredonia attends conference in Boston
Laura Poweski of Fredonia was one of six students from the hospitality management program at Mercyhurst College who attended the annual Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) conference held Jan. 12-15 in Boston’s Hynes Convention Center.
The students accompanied professor Daryl Georger, Ph.D., a member of the PCMA task force for educators and a guest speaker at the annual meeting titled “Convening Leaders.”
Georger has numerous colleagues in the industry, which created a networking opportunity for the Mercyhurst students. They attended private Presidents’ receptions for marriott International, Starwood, Hilton, Disney and Southworth Development. In addition, they attended the PCMA Chairman’s reception, PCMA Power Chapter Chairman’s reception and San Francisco/West Coast Tourism reception.
“The experience and connections the students enjoyed through Dr. Georger’s efforts are extremely valuable,” said Hospitality Department Chair Beth Ann Sheldon. “The students attended a number of private events, where they had the exclusive opportunity to meet with alumni and executives from top hospitality management companies.”
