SeeThroughNY updated with new public authority payroll data

Payroll data for 67,050 state and local public authority employees has been added to SeeThrough-NY, the Empire Center for Public Policy’s public spending transparency website.

The Center used the Free-dom of Information Law to secure salary information back to 2008 from more than 1,100 of the state’s public authorities, which employ more than 150,000 people and spend more than $50 billion annually.

Beekeepers Assoc. meets Thursday

The Chautauqua County Beekeepers Association will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Frank Bratt Ag Center, 3542 Turner Road in James-town. Topics: Election of officers and early spring management of colonies. All are welcome to attend.

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy to host

informational session

The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host an informational session and tour on its campus at 8115 Glasgow Road in Cassadaga on Thursday at 10 a.m. CJC provides training to begin a career in the healthcare and construction industries as well as high school equivalency classes to those in need of a diploma.

Forestville kindergarten, pre-school registrations

Forestville Central School has set its kindergarten roundup date for April 24 at 1 p.m.

Children who will be 5 years old by Dec. 1, 2014 are eligible for kindergarten. Children who will be 4 years old by Dec. 1, 2014 are eligible for pre-school. At this time, any parent who has not yet contacted the district, and has a child who falls into either of these categories, should call the elementary office at 965-2742. Registration packets will be sent out soon. The date for Pre-School Parent Orientation will be determined soon.

Walking at Rec Center

The city of Dunkirk Recreation Center at the County Fairgrounds will be open mornings for an adult walking program. Enjoy a morning walk, Monday through Friday; 7:30 to 10 a.m. Sessions run through the end of March. Fee is $1 per day. Punch cards are available for $10, which includes 16 walks.

Ripley preschool

registration March 13

Ripley Central School will hold registration for preschool for the 2014-2015 school year on March 13 in the Guidance Office. To be eligible for preschool, a child must turn 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2014. Parents may register their child between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Registration will be on a first come first enrolled basis. If you cannot make it on the registration day, contact the Guidance Office at 736-2631 Ext. 212.

Bring with you to registration proof of residency, your child’s birth certificate, your child’s Social Security card and an official immunization record with up to date immunizations.

Collins Liberty Fest committee meeting

The Collins Liberty Fest committee meeting will be held on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. All town residents are encouraged to volunteer for to help plan the annual event.

The meeting will be held at the L.K. Painter Community Center.

Patty Ballman to appear on Senior Report Saturday

Senior Report with Reed Powers will have Patty Ballman as the guest on the March 8 television program. Ballman is the administrator at Westfield Memorial Hospital.

The live, call-in program airs from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 and 8 p.m. for some communities.

‘Dialogues’ to appear on Access Channel 5

“Dialogues” is the name of a half-hour television program produced by Mark Kiyak from SUNY Fredonia. Hosted by Mike Igoe, the program will feature guest Kent Knappenberger. Knappenberger is a Westfield teacher who won the first music education Grammy award.

The program will air on Access Channel 5 at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. each day beginning on March 8 with the last airing on March 14.

Pre-Kindergarten

registration in progress at Gowanda Central School

Registration for pre-kindergarten children for the 2014-15 school year is in progress at Gowanda Central School. Openings are still available in the morning or afternoon session.

Children who will turn 4 years old on or before December 1, 2014 are eligible for pre-kindergarten. Students must reside within the Gowanda School district. Proof of residency is required.

Town of Dunkirk accepting late taxes

As required by Section 987 of the Real Property Tax Law, notices have been mailed to owners of real property in the Town of Dunkirk who have not yet paid their 2014 Town or County Taxes.

In addition to the 2 percent penalty now in effect, a penalty of $2 per parcel notification fee will be charged for mailing such notice.

Taxes will be collected at the Town of Dunkirk Clerk’s office until April 2. After April 2, taxes must be paid to Chautauqua County Department of Finance in Mayville.

Pomfret seeking person for planning board

The town of Pomfret is accepting letters of interest for a vacancy on the planning board. Those interested in applying can address their letters to the Pomfret Town Board and drop them off at the town hall. Any questions regarding the vacancy can be directed to the town clerk.

Brocton Central pool open for community use

The Brocton Central School District pool is open for community evening and Saturday use. Aquacize is every Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. Starting today, Aqua Zumba will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Adult swim and adult lap swim (16 years and older) is Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday open family swim begins this Saturday from 1 until 3 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m. Swimmers 8 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult in the water. No more than two children per adult chaperone.

The Fitness Center is open from 6 until 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.

All weekday adult prices are $5 a session and open Saturday swim is $1. for children and students and $2 for adults. Check the web site for more details and pricing options.

Chautauqua Lecture Series to Appear on Access Channel 5

Robert Franklin’s Chautauqua lecture “Proclamations, Letters and Tweets” will be shown on Access Channel 5.

The program will air at 3 and 9 p.m. each day beginning on Saturday with the last airing on March 14.

Access Channel 5 is available to cable viewers in the Chautauqua, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Sherman, and Westfield areas.
