Joseph C. Russo Jr.

Joseph C. Russo Jr., age 60, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Tuesday March 4, 2014 at Buffalo General Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born Sept. 3, 1953 in Dunkirk to the late Joseph C. and Cruciana (LaTona) Russo.

Joe grew up in Dunkirk, graduating from Dunkirk High School in 1972. Fol-lowing high school, Joe went on to Erie Community College where he graduated in 1974.

He was the owner- opera-tor of Russo’s Catering for over 20 years. Joe was the General Manager of Food Service at SUNY Fredonia for 25 years, until his retirement, due to health reasons, in 2006.

Joe was a great believer in giving back to the community beginning with his fundraising efforts to assist the Dialysis unit at Brooks Hospital to his founding of the RO Foundation, a charitable foundation to assist patients and their families when dealing with unexpected travel expenses to hospitals or treatment centers near and far, in 2010.

Joe is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” (Dyckes) Russo; 2 daughters: Lisa (Tony) Hackney of Raleigh, N.C., and Melinda (Jeremy) Welka of Fredonia; 3 grand-daughters: Madyson, Alyssa, Hayleigh Welka. His grand fur-dogs: Rocky and Riley Joe; 2 brothers and 3 sisters: Robert (Pam) Russo of San Diego, CA, Richard Russo of Dunkirk, Lynda (Leo) Smith of Charlotte, N.Y., Sue (Frank) Guzzetta of Lake View, N.Y. and Sally (Vince) Incitto of Washington, D.C.; also survived by a sister-in-law Jane Russo of Fredonia, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Russo and a nephew Joseph “Jo Jo” Russo.

Friends and family may call today 4pm-8pm & Saturday 11am-1pm at the LARSON-TIMKO FUNERAL HOME, 20 Central Avenue, Fredonia where a funeral service will follow immediately at 1 p.m. A private interment in Forest Hill Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
