CASAC’s parenting program starts March 10

The Chautauqua Alco-holism & Substance Abuse Council is offering a free parenting class that is as fun as it is effective Active Parenting Now.

The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Charles Bradley Carlson Memorial Fund has provided a special grant to the CASAC to help those who want to better their parenting skills. This six-session video and discussion program is being offered without charge at the CASAC Jamestown office, 501 W. Third St., Suites 3 & 4 Sprinchorn Building, Jamestown. The session dates are on Mondays: March 10, 17, 24, April 7, 14 and 21 from 4 to 6 p.m.

The program is for parents of children of toddlers to teens. The program helps teach parents how to raise responsible, cooperative children who are prepared to meet the challenges they will face as they mature, resist negative peer pressure and thrive in the 21st century.

This program considers child development and parenting in terms of the age/stage of the child within the perspective of varied nuclear families and vignettes representative of diverse cultures. Through this program, parents are provided with skills that will help them develop cooperation, responsibility and self-esteem in their children. They’ll also learn positive, non-violent discipline techniques so they can avoid power struggles. Upon completion of the program evaluations reveal an increase in family stability, healthier behaviors and structure.
