Nursing homes: Genesee County eyeing options

Genesee County is facing a situation similar to Chautauqua County in the coming months. Once again, the county to our northeast will be looking at making its nursing home viable while attempting to keep it under public control.

It will not be easy. The Genesee County facility has lost more than $17 million – all billed back to the taxpayers.

According to county Chairman Raymond F. Cianfrini, in a January news release, the “overall focus is on the future to preserve the continuity, quality and accessibility of long-term care.”

Chautauqua County leaders decided last month to sell the facility to VestraCare after many months of discussion. Genesee County is likely on the same path.
