Harold G. Wing
Harold G. Wing of Ripley, NY, died Saturday (March 8, 2014) at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Erie, Pa.
A lifelong resident of Chautauqua County, Harold was born July 14, 1921 in Hartfield, NY, to the late George and Mary Wing.
He was educated in the Mayville School System and graduated in 1939. Prior to World War II, he worked at the Curtiss Wright Aircraft Factory in Buffalo, NY. He repaired the frames and fuselages of fighter planes. He was a veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1946.
In 1965, he married Winifred (Sawin) of Ripley, NY. She was his loving wife for 49 years.
Harold was a longtime master finishing carpenter who worked for Jackson Builders of Westfield, NY and then established his own carpenter shop, where he was self-employed for many years.
Harold was the oldest member of the William Travis American Legion Post in Mayville, NY. His other memberships included the Ripley United Methodist Church and the Moose Club of Jamestown, NY.
Besides his wife, Winifred, Harold is survived by his daughters, Wanda (Bob) Cincar of Athens, Texas, Juanita (Tommy) Stafford of New Port Richey, FL; son Rodney Wing of Meridian, MS; stepsons, James (Margaret) Perrine of Petersburg, VA, William (Nella) Perrine of Westfield, NY and David (Susan) Perrine of Erie, PA. He is further survived by his sister, Helen (Donald) Pierson and brother Fred (Jane) Wing of Stockton, NY; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral service will be held Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mathews Funeral Home Inc., 140 West Main St., Ripley, NY with the Rev. Craig Buelow officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service and may call at the Funeral Home on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Quincy Cemetery in Ripley, NY.
Donations in Harold’s memory may be made to the Ripley United Methodist Church and/or the Ripley Hose Company.
