Westfield Youth Wrestling Has Success at NYWAY
Far West Regionals
Westfield Youth Wrestling had a strong showing at the NYWAY Far West Regionals on Sunday, March 9, at JCC.
Mason Maring finished first in the 6-Under Division, Jack Bourgeois was second at 55 pounds in the 7-8 Division, Martin Ohlsson was third at 60 in the 7-8 Division and Jeffery Woollett was third at 70 in the 7-8 Division. Also for Westfield, Austin Bourgeois was second at 115 in the 11-12 Division and Dyllan Houser was first at 140 in the 11-12 Division. All of the wrestlers qualified for the NYWAY State Championships, which will be held in Syracuse March 15-16.
CCHA A League
Best-of-Three Championship Series
BJ’s Pub 5, P-Dubs 2 – Mike Nelson recorded the hat trick in the win for BJ’s Pub while Tom O’Connor Jr., and Tom Coughlin also scored. Assists were recorded by Coughlin (two), Joe Dunn, Ron Friend and Mark Wojcinski. A.J. Riforgiat picked up the win in net.
For P-Dubs, Eric Tarnowski and Chris Schurr picked up the goals while assists went to Cory Dziduch, Josh Polak and Kevin Salemi.
Game two of the series will be held on Sunday at 10:30 p.m.
CCHA B League
Best-of-Three Championship Series
Wicked Glen 6, Pick-UPS 4 – Mike Szach scored a pair of goals in the win for Wicked Glen while Sean Strickler, Brian Denea, Chris Schurr and Tony Catuzza also scored. Assists went to Kevin Smith, Tony Catuzza, Szach, Strickler, Jim Azarella and Bill Clark. Mike Barret picked up the win between the pipes.
Goals for the Pick-UPS were scored by Mike Beyers (three) and Nicholas Malcheski. Assists went to Malcheski (two), Mike Gzyl, Beyers and Tim Zugger. Dave Stefaniak suffered the loss in net.
Game two will be held on March 19, at 7:30 p.m.
CCHA C League
EBC 4, Beaver Club 2 – Ryan Simon netted a pair of goals for EBC while Joe Hallmark Jr., and Chris Irwan scored the other two in the win for EBC. Assists went to Michael Hallmark, Dan Courtney and Ryan Simon. Dave Stefaniak was between the pipes for the win.
For Beaver Club, Don Bley and Chris Leysath scored the goals, with an assist going to Jim Rozen. Shane Randolph suffered the loss in goal.
Coughlan’s 4, Wicked Glen 1 – Dan Robinson, Sean Stamer, Bill Anderson and Lee Andolina provided the goals for Coughlan’s, with an assist going to Bob Sayers. Gloria Andolina was the winning goalie.
Wicked Glen received its goal from Kerry Meyer, who was assisted on the play by Chris McCaan. Nate Williams suffered the loss in net.
Coughlan’s and EBC will meet in the first game of their best-of-three championship series on Sunday at 9:15 p.m.
The Cassadaga Valley Youth Soccer program is holding required online registration for all players and coaches. Visit www.cvyouthsoccer.com and click the registration link at the top of the home page. Online registration is currently open and runs through April 30.
Although in-person registration will still take place, all players, coaches and referees are required to register online.
The in-person registration will take place Tuesday, April 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the Sinclairville Library. A $10 late fee will be applied after April 30.
The cost is $35 per player up to three players. Additional children cost $25. Make checks payable to Cassadaga Valley Youth Soccer or pay online with a credit card.
Birth certificates are required for any new player. The certificate can be emailed to email@example.com. Uniform samples will not be available. Refer to the sizing chart online.
Anyone interested in coaching must complete an online registration and pass the mandatory background check. They must also attend one of the mandatory coaches meetings. Coaches meetings will be held twice to ensure complete participation. The dates and times of those meetings are yet to be announced.
Referees must also complete an online registration and pass the mandatory background check. A mandatory meeting will be announced in the near future.
The league will be accepting team sponsors through Ma 12 and will accept donations anytime. For more information, contact Ron Barker at 985-5950.
Cattaraugus County HOF Banquet
The 12th Annual Cattaraugus County Sports Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Saturday, March 29, at the Little Valley Legion beginning at 6 p.m. The event will include a buffet dinner, door prizes, awards ceremony and sports auction. Previous inductees are encouraged to attend and will be introduced.
This year’s class of inductees include: Tom Howard (Allegany-Limestone), Rick Feuz (Cattaraugus-Little Valley), John Kokel (Gowanda) Joe Smith (Franklinville), John Fitzpatrick (Hinsdale), Ron Ashworth (Pioneer), Bob and Deb Ford (West Valley), Geoffrey Dietrich (Salamanca), Bob Emke (Ellicottville), Carolyn Shields (Olean), Louise Freeman (Randolph) and Gary Sweatland (Portville).

His Way Archers
to Hold Annual
Iron Man Shoot
His Way Archers will hold its annual Iron Man Shoot on Saturday, from 9:00-3:00.
The fee for shooting is $15 and the event consists of a 30-target 3-D round, a 600 round of Spot Shooting and 301 on an archery dart board.
His Way Archers is located at 31 Water Street, in Jamestown.
Westfield Baseball Chicken and Biscuit Dinner Scheduled
The Westfield varsity baseball team will hold a chicken and biscuit dinner and chinese auction on Sunday, March 23 from 2-6 p.m. at the Westfield Methodist Church.
Tickets are $8 and will help with the team’s upcoming trip to Myrtle Beach and the Mingo Bay Tourney.
