Snowmobiler, 28, charged after hitting police car
MAYVILLE – A 28-year-old Westfield man was handed a slew of charges after he allegedly collided with a police vehicle on his snowmobile while intoxicated Saturday.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, around 12:45 a.m., Michael Trippy of East Main Street, Westfield, reportedly failed to stop at the side of the highway in the area of Route 430 and Bloomer Road in the village of Mayville.
A deputy and K-9 Drago were on patrol in that area. Trippy’s snowmobile entered the roadway and nearly struck a westbound vehicle. The deputy then activated his emergency lights to stop Trippy, but the snowmobile continued on the roadway and struck the deputy’s vehicle.
After an investigation, Trippy was reportedly found to be intoxicated.
Trippy was charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated, reckless operation, failure to stop before crossing a highway and failure to yield while crossing a highway. He was arraigned in Chautauqua Town Court and remanded to the county jail in lieu of bail.
No one was injured in the accident
