Blue Star Mothers meeting Saturday to plan for sending Easter care packages

The Lake Erie Chapter 4 of the Blue Star Mothers of America will be holding its monthly meeting on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Mayville American Legion, 144 South Erie St., Mayville.

The upcoming Easter care package mailing to deployed troops will be discussed. The group will be packing boxes on April 5 at Zion Lutheran Church 45 Falconer Street Frewsburg, NY starting at 9 a.m. Anyone wanting to support or join them is welcome to attend.

The Blue Star Mothers have collection boxes located around the county where donations for these care packages are being gathered. In this area, the drop-off sites are Dunkirk Legion Memorial Post 62 and WWII Veteran’s Organization 216 Lake Shore Drive East, Dunkirk.

Acceptable items for donation are: nuts, mixed nuts and trail mix; canned chips (Pringles); chocolates and candy bars; coffee (whole bean or ground); hot drinks (hot chocolate, spiced cider, tea bags); instant coffee sugar and creamer packets; powdered drink mixes (especially individual portions); Red Bull/Monster Drinks; white calf length socks with no logo; nerf or tennis balls, yo-yos, frisbees, miscellaneous games; wet wipes; just add water individual servings of instant cereal; breakfast/cereal bars, protein bars, power bars, cliff bars; individual soup packets; tuna or chicken pull-top cans of foil pouches; Tuna/chicken box with crackers; beef jerky, slim jims, beef sausage rolls; peanut butter, ready-to-eat chili, pasta, soup in pouch or pop-top lid; crackers, mints, gum, hard candy; corn nuts, sunflower seeds, microwave popcorn; granola bars and pop tarts; crackers with cheese, cheese packs (non refrigerated); travel size personal items; baby wipes, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, lip balm; dental floss, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash; eye drops, liquid body soap, shaving lotion, shampoo; deodorant, body lotion, Q-tips, disposable razors; foot/baby powder, pocket tissues, Tylenol, bug spray; batteries (AA); crossword puzzles, word search, Sudoku, playing cards; current paperback books, magazines, CD’s; white cotton crew neck T-shirts (medium or large), Zip Lock Brand bags (all sizes), iTunes gift cards; and flip flops.
