Fredonia Kiwanis announces Student of the Month

Fredonia High School senior Nicholas Miller is the son of Kirk and Nancy Miller. He has been on the honor roll for all four years of high school and taken four Advanced Placement classes, as well as many advanced high school classes. He will receive an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors this June.

Nicholas has been a member of the tennis team for all four years of high school and received a varsity letter. He also is a lifetime ice hockey player for the NCCYHA Steelers Midget MOHL team.

Music is a very large part of his life. He has been a member of the Symphonic Band for all four years as a percussionist and has played drum set in the Jazz Ensemble for three years. He has been a member of the All-County Band, as well as the All-County percussion ensemble. A member of the Fredonia Drama Club’s productions for all four years. He was general cast in Godspell and Fiddler on the Roof and played the part of Bun Foo in Thoroughly Modern Millie, with all lines and music in Chinese. In the current production of Bye Bye Birdie, he portrays lovable Mr. McAfee. He plans to continue with music in college.

Other extracurricular activities have included Student Council for two years, the Model UN club, the foreign language club, the quiz club, the Key club, as well as the National Honor Society.

Outside of school, he has worked for the Fredonia-Pomfret Recreation Department for two years. Jobs have included a teacher of beginning Spanish, a park attendant in the summer and assisting with coaching basketball in the winter. As a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, he has participated in the hand bell choir and taught at the summer Vacation Bible Camp. He has volunteered at the Fredonia Telecommunications Society for many years.

Nicholas enjoys traveling and learning about new places. He has toured England and France, and this spring plans a tour to Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary.

Nicholas plans to attend Kent State University in Ohio, majoring in geography. He hopes to someday work in city-planning or map-making.
