Aleatha C. DeRider

Aleatha C. DeRider, 98, of Dunkirk died Wednesday (March 26, 2014) at the Chautauqua County Home after a brief illness.

A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Mrs. DeRider was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dunkirk.

She was born June 12, 1915 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late William and Elsie (Washington) Flory.

Survivors include two sons, David (Sylvia) DeRider and Douglas (Andrea) DeRider, both of Dunkirk; one sister, Elaine Niles of Pennsylvania; one brother, Harold Flory of Dunkirk; four granddaughters, Debra (Robert) Rybarczyk of Williamsville, Mindy Deland of Dunkirk, Julie (Dwayne) Smith of Depew and Kimberly (Joseph) Canale of Corning; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard DeRider; one brother, William Flory; and three sisters, Wilma Benjamin, Elizabeth Flory and Corine Flory.

Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family. Honorary pallbearer was Charles Hannum. Pallbearers were Joseph Canale, Robert Rybarczyk, Dwayne Smith, Alden Bailey, and Shawn Smith. Burial was in the Willowbrook Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Dunkirk, Resident Council at the Chautauqua County Home or a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements were by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
