USSF Soccer ref class

The United States Soccer Federation – WNYSRA/Southern Tier will be holding a new entry class April 12-13 at the War Veterans’ Recreation Center, 33432 Fluvanna Ave. Ext., Jamestown, for anyone interested in becoming a soccer official.

The fee is $20 and includes certified training to referee recreational games (summer youth) and being able to gain experience with all levels of competition.

FHS Baseball Program to Hold Clinic

The Fredonia High School Baseball program is hosting two clinics on Saturday, April 5, for children ages 5-12.

The clinics will highlight fundamental skills, with the first session – for children aged 5-8 – running from 8-11 a.m., and the second – for children aged 9-12 – from noon until 3 p.m.

Instruction will be provided by Fredonia High School players and coaches and will include hitting, throwing, infield and outfield defense, pitching and base running. Catching instruction will also be available.

The clinic will be held indoors and will utilize three gyms, a batting cage and indoor pitching mounds. Participants are asked to wear sneakers and bring their own glove.

The cost of the clinic is $20. Each additional child from the same family will receive a $5 discount. All participants will receive a T-shirt and water bottle. Walk-ins are welcome. And children from any school district are welcome to attend.

Babe Ruth Tryouts

The Brocton-Portland Babe Ruth League will hold tryouts on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., at the Brocton Central School gym.

The tryouts will be held rain or shine and all players should bring a glove and a copy of their birth certificate. The league is for players who will be 13 by April 30 and no older than 15 by the same date.

NCCYHA Steelers Bantam Ice Hockey Tryouts

Tryouts for the upcoming 2014-15 NCCYHA Bantam season will be held Friday, April 11, from 6:30-7:50 p.m., at Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena.

Birth years must be 2000 or 2001. Please bring a $10 tryout fee and two jerseys – one light and one dark – with your name on the back.

Meetings Scheduled For Dunkirk Men’s Fastpitch, Slo-Pitch

Organizational meetings for all teams interested in participating in the Dunkirk Recreation Department’s slo-pitch and fastpitch softball leagues have been set.

The slo-pitch meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 9 at 6 p.m., in the second floor conference room at city hall while the fastpitch meeting will be held in the same room at 7 p.m.

The meeting will discuss league formats, rules, fees and rosters. All teams should be represented at the meetings and any team wishing to participate, but is unable to attend, should call the Recreation Department at 366-9885, or 366-9886.


Valley Youth Soccer

The Cassadaga Valley Youth Soccer program is holding required online registration for all players and coaches. Visit and click the registration link at the top of the home page. Online registration is currently open and runs through April 30.

Although in-person registration will still take place, all players, coaches and referees are required to register online.

The in-person registration will take place Tuesday, April 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the Sinclairville Library. A $10 late fee will be applied after April 30.

The cost is $35 per player up to three players. Additional children cost $25. Make checks payable to Cassadaga Valley Youth Soccer or pay online with a credit card.

Birth certificates are required for any new player. The certificate can be emailed to Uniform samples will not be available. Refer to the sizing chart online.

Anyone interested in coaching must complete an online registration and pass the mandatory background check. They must also attend one of the mandatory coaches meetings. Coaches meetings will be held twice to ensure complete participation. The dates and times of those meetings are yet to be announced.

Referees must also complete an online registration and pass the mandatory background check. A mandatory meeting will be announced in the near future.

Southwestern Chapter of CFO Looking

to Hold Annual Classes

The Southwestern Chapter of Certified Football Officials is seeking to hold its annual football officiating class, if there is an interest.

To determine interest, the chapter is asking applicants to contact Greg Moran at 499-5916 or Dave Kolstee at 484-7112 by March 21. The classes will be held at a site and time to be determined if there is enough interest. The fee is $50 including books.

The classes will lead to certification to officiate varsity and sub-varsity games in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties.

Fredonia Little League Manager/Coach Meeting Rescheduled

The Fredonia Little League manager/coach meeting will be held today, at 7 p.m., in the FHS cafeteria. This meeting is mandatory for all coaches that plan on being on the field this spring.

Player safety, league rules and proper field maintenance will be discussed. In addition, all teams will sign up for their practice times and will receive their game balls.

T-Ball, Hathaway and Minor League softball teams will be selected after the meeting.
