Joanne R. Thorp
Joanne Roberta Thorp of The Villages, FL, passed away March 7, 2014, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. She was born in Jamestown, NY April 29, 1937 to Carroll and Elizabeth Klomp Hussey. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John George Hussey, and her husband, Edward Norton Thorp, whom she married Oct. 27, 1956 in Sinclairville, NY, and who passed away Feb. 12, 2011.
Joanne is survived by three sons, Craig (Wendy), of Homestead, FL; Brian, of Aurora, CO; and Kevin, of Baxley, GA; three grandchildren; Joanna, Zachary, and Zeke. Also surviving is a niece, Kim (Darryl) Jamison, and two nephews Bob (Teresa), and Mark (Joyce) Hussey, who included Joanne in their life after Ed’s death.
Joanne and Ed lived in Cassadaga, NY until 1990, moved to Bellingham, WA, and retired to FL.
Joanne was very talented in many ways, including quilting, needlework, crafting, oil/watercolor/and china painting, and was an excellent cook, all of which she shared with family and friends. She and Ed hosted many family gatherings, and their home was always open to snowbird family and friends. They both enjoyed golfing and time with family, friends, and neighbors in WNY, Bellingham, and FL.
A Memorial service was held March 10 at the Mulberry Center, in The Villages, with Mike Whitfield officiating. A Memorial service and internment will be in Stockton, NY July 5. Details later.
The family requests memorials be made to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, in Joanne’s name.
