Sgt. Edward Payne Topliffe, U.S. Army

Sgt. Edward Payne Topliffe was born June 5, 1916. He was the son of Mabel (Payne) and Edgar Topliffe. He was the brother of Donald Topliffe and the sister of Marjorie (Topliffe) King.

He and his first wife Cora had a daughter Julie. He and Cora divorced. Later, he married Amy and they had three sons: Edward, Bruce and Brian.

Sgt. Topliffe served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was overseas for 18 months. He saw action in the North African, Tunisian, Sicilian and Italian campaigns. He participated in the establishment and maintenance of the Anzio BeachHead. He served in the medical corps and was attached to the famous Fifth Army.

After his discharge, he returned to Fredonia and worked for his brother, Don Topliffe. He later moved to Baltimore, Md. where his three sons were born, and where he spent the rest of his life.
