Sheridan Historical Society Spring Auction and Basket Raffle Fundraiser April 12

The Sheridan Historical Society is preparing for its Spring Auction and Basket Raffle Fundraiser to be held April 12 at the Town of Sheridan Community Cen-ter. The basket raffle and auction preview will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the auction beginning at 1 p.m. Refreshments will be available.

The society is seeking donations of furniture, collectibles, tools, household and other items of interest (no appliances or clothing.) Anyone interested in donating items for the auction or a basket, call 672-2201 for further information. SHS is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code with contributions deductible under section 170. All proceeds fund the efforts of the SHS to “cultivate a greater knowledge and appreciation of the history of Sheridan, New York.”

Villenova Cemetery Burial Association seeks help tonight

The Villenova Cemetery Burial Association is in urgent need of members. Think spring, get out of the house and attend the public meeting at 7 at the Villenova Grange. The grange is located at the intersection of Route 83 and Route 322.

$1,000 Scholarship to be awarded

The Chautauqua County Fair has announced that 10 scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded to current New York state high school seniors and also students enrolled in college. The New York State Association of Agricultural Fairs and the New York Showpeople’s Association sponsor the scholarships.

The qualifying students must be active at the Chautauqua County Fair. All applicants from Chautauqua County must submit their application through the Chautauqua County Fair no later than April 8.

Forestville kindergarten, pre-school registrations

Forestville Central School has set its kindergarten roundup date for April 24 at 1 p.m.

Children who will be 5 years old by Dec. 1, 2014 are eligible for kindergarten. Children who will be 4 years old by Dec. 1, 2014 are eligible for pre-school. At this time, any parent who has not yet contacted the district, and has a child who falls into either of these categories, should call the elementary office at 965-2742. Registration packets will be sent out soon. The date for Pre-School Parent Orienta-tion will be determined soon.
