Marian J. Barone
Marian J. Barone, age 91, of Silver Creek, NY went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday (April 1, 2014) at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born on April 7, 1922 in Chautauqua, NY, the daughter of the late Reuben and Esther (Smith) Preston. She was a graduate of Chautauqua High School and a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Silver Creek.
A devoted wife and mother, Marian enjoyed spending time with family and friends and gardening; nasturtiums were her favorite flower. She loved to cook and was known for her apple pie. She had a beautiful voice and also enjoyed playing the organ. Marian was a strong, fiesty woman who appreciated the finer things in life. She liked anything pertaining to England, especially tea and scones. The Chautauqua Institute was a big part of her life. She had the opportunity to meet many famous people, such as Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Amelia Earhart and Eleanor Roosevelt, to name a few. St. Columban’s on the Lake was a special home to her and she was very fond at the Sisters and staff there. Survivors include her son, Fr. Levine Stephen (Louise) Nelson Jr. of Pottstown, Pa.; a daughter,
Linda S. (William) Wright of Silver Creek; six grandchildren, Eric Nelson, Wendy (Michael) McLeod, Jennifer (John) Raughley, Amanda Nelson, Matthew and Emily Wright; five great-grandchildren, Michael Connor, Joseph Jeremy and Sadie. Besides her parents, she
was preceded in death by her first husband, Levine Stephen Nelson Sr.; her second husband, John A. Barone (2009), to whom
she was married for 60 years; two brothers, Robert and Arthur Preston; and a sister, Margaret Williams. There will be no public
visitation observed. A memorial service will be held at the convenience at the family with the date and time to be announced.
