VFW 1017 Ladies Auxiliary to meet

The John T. Murray VFW 1017 Ladies Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, April 12 at the Post, 113 Deer Street, Dunkirk at 2 p.m. Nominations and elections of officers will be held. All sisters are encouraged to attend this meeting as this will determine the officers for the ensuing year.

Lighthouse Ghost Tours tickets on sale

Come join the fun. Several Ghost Tours will be held at the Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse and Veterans Park Museum this summer sponsored by the Fredonia Ghost Hunters. The first tour will be held on May 10 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. A total of 15 spots are available at a cost of $25 per person. Tickets can be purchased on line at or by calling 366-5050. Other dates include: July 19, October 18, October 25, and October 26. All proceeds benefit the lighthouse. Sign up soon and reserve your spot.

Dunkirk library seeks donations

Donations are being accepted now until June 2 at the Dunkirk Free Library for the annual Friends of the Dunkirk Free Library summer book sale, to be held on Saturday, June 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Gently-used and pre-loved books, magazines, DVDs, VHS tapes, CDs and cassette tapes will be appreciated. No textbooks, newspapers or encyclopedias can be accepted. All proceeds from the book sale will be used for library programs and improvements.

Fredonia Fire Dept. February run report

The Fredonia Fire Department released its run report for February.

A total of 148 calls were received, with 111 being rescue and EMS-related, 20 false alarms, eight good intent calls, five fires, three hazardous conditions with no fires and one service call.

Eighty-two calls were in the village, 34 in the town of Pomfret outside village limits, 21 at SUNY Fredonia and 11 were for mutual aid.
