Former local resident named Doctor of the Year

Dr. Lisa Heichberger was recognized as the Doctor of the Year and honored at a dinner at the Newbury County Memorial Hospital, Newbury, S.C. Heichberger was selected because she leads by example and displays enthusiasm for her work and commitment to exceptional patient care.

She is a physician practicing family medicine at Lovelace Family Medicine in Prosperity, S. C. She also serves as a primary instructor and preceptor for medical students and physicians in training.

A 1994 graduate of SUNY Fredonia with a double major in biology and medical technology, Heichberger is a 1998 graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Medicine, where she received the Norris Miner award for outstanding clinical competence in Family Medicine. Following graduation, she served as Chief Resident at the Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., and was awarded a fellowship in Family Medicine in Tacoma. Wash.

A native of Gowanda, she graduated from Gowanda Central School in 1990 and is married to Mark Peterson, also a native of Gowanda. The couple has two daughters, Grace and Eliana. The family resides in Chapin, S.C.. Dr. Heichberger is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Heichberger of Gowanda.Robert Heichberger is professor emeritus in education at SUNY Fredonia
