Several fire departments responded to the Rite-Aid Pharmacy in Silver Creek Saturday morning after the report of a burning smell. According to Silver Creek Fire Chief Jeff Griewisch, Assistant Chief Brandyn Griewisch was the first on the scene around 10:15 a.m. He verified a strong burnt odor coming from the back room. Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to see if the fire was in the roof of the building. Upon finding nothing, they checked the back room again and isolated the odor to a heater unit near the ceiling. Griewisch said the heater’s power exhaust pipe was melting and causing the odor. He said no one was injured and the store was closed for about an hour. Also responding to the fire were Hanover Center, Sunset Bay, Sheridan, City of Dunkirk’s ladder truck and Fredonia Rescue.
