Lady T’birds win opening game of Grand Strand Tournament
MYRTLE BEACH,?S.C. – The Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back in defeating High Point Christian Academy, 8-4, in the opening game of the Myrtle Beach Grand Strand Tournament.
The winning pitcher for the Lady Thunderbirds was Olivia Anderson, with one walk and five hits.
Jade Walsh pitched the final two innings and gave up one walk and did not allow a hit.
Ryleigh Hawkins started off the game with a triple and scored on a Courtney Hewes double. Walsh was then hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with no outs and Kalishia Swoger hit a single to score Hewes from second, which still left runners on first and second with no outs. Emiliee Steger followed with a hit to score Walsh. Emily Corwin had a RBI single to plate Steger.
Chautauqua Lake put up a run in the second inning and another run in the fourth inning to round out the scoring.
Top hitters for the Lady Thunderbirds were Ashley Moulton with three hits and a RBI, while Hawkins hit a triple and a single. Steger had two singles with a RBI for the winners.
Midlakes 5, Cassadaga Valley 4
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Cassadaga Lady Cougars lost their first game of The Grandstrand Softball tournament Monday, 5-4, at the hands of Midlakes High School.
Midlakes is from the Finger Lakes area of New York.
Cassadaga Valley’s Alyssa Hahn took the tough-luck loss, allowing four hits, with eight strikeouts and one walk. Only one Midlakes run was earned as Cassadaga Valley had too many miscues on defense.
The Lady Cougars’ offense was led by Kylee Braymiller with two hits including a triple and two RBIs. Olivia Ruiz, Brooke Johnson and Madison Reuther added hits for Cassadaga Valley.
