VanVleck, Murphy pitch Silver Creek to win

RIPLEY – The Silver Creek Black Knights’ (2-1, 0-1) Jeff VanVleck and John Murphy combined to throw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts as the Black Knights downed the Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds, 10-1, in non-league baseball action Thursday.

VanVleck got the win by going the first five innings, striking out five while allowing three hits and no runs.

Losing pitcher, Tyler Meredith, went three innings before giving way to Braydyn Wappat for two innings. Alex Disbro finished the game by throwing the final two innings for Chautauqua Lake.

Unearned runs continued to plague the Thunderbirds as they gave up 14 walks while allowing eight hits.

For Silver Creek, Adam Klajbor and Jake Nobisch led the offense with two hits apiece while Murphy added a double and three RBIs.

The Black Knights play at Cattaraugus-Little Valley today while Chautauqua Lake plays at home against Sherman on April 23.
