County Soil and Water Conservation District directors to meet Wednesday

The Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District directors will hold their regular meeting on Wednesday, April 23 at 8:30 a.m. The meeting will be held at the County SWCD in Northcrest Business Park, 220 Fluvanna Ave., Suite 600, Jamestown.

Humane Society receives grant for pitbulls, pitbull mix dogs

The Chautauqua County Humane Society has received a grant from PetSmart Charities to spay/neuter 146 pitbulls and pitbull mix dogs at no cost to the owners.

The grant also includes a microchip for the dog and a rabies vaccine if needed.

Only residents of Dunkirk, Fredonia and Jamestown can partake in grant funding. This grant is valid until June 15.

Those wishing to schedule an appointment should call 665-2209 ext. 205. Time and funds are limited, so those wishing to take advantage of the grant funds should schedule as soon as possible.

Forestville kindergarten and pre-school registrations

Forestville Central School has set its kindergarten roundup date for April 24 at 1 p.m.

Children who will be 5 years old by Dec. 1, 2014 are eligible for kindergarten. Children who will be 4 years old by Dec. 1, 2014 are eligible for pre-school. At this time, any parent who has not yet contacted the district, and has a child who falls into either of these categories, should call the elementary office at 965-2742. Registration packets will be sent out soon. The date for Pre-School Parent Orientation will be determined soon.
